COME JOIN THE FUN
ISLAND DAY, SUNDAY, MAY 2ND
at LOVERS KEY STATE PARK south of Ft. Myers Beach
Everglades Region PCA members and friends are invited to dress for the islands and enjoy a relaxing Island Day of fun at Lovers Key State Park. The Park is the second most visited park in Florida, and regularly named one of the best parks in the USA because of its glorious 2+ mile- long beaches, its extraordinary kayaking and biking, and over 712 acres of natural Florida beauty. These attractions, along with the brand-new world-class state-of-the-art Welcome and Discovery Center are sure to provide a terrific Florida day, and a chance to say adios to our PCA members who are returning to their summer locations. Spend the day in the park, enjoy the many opportunities for island fun, and perhaps a glorious sunset. Everglades Region PCA is happy to cover your entrance fee to the park.
We’ll meet at 10AM at the Lovers Key parking area adjacent to the Welcome Center and Kayak Launch area. We’ll sign our covid waivers, chat with our friends and enjoy our gorgeous German eye candy. Our hosts from the State Park, the Friends of Lovers Key (FOLKS), will greet us there and tour us through the brand new Welcome and Discovery Center. FOLKS will orient us, provide history on Lovers Key, its environmental features, volunteer activities, and things to do.
NOTE: Coming by boat? Meet us at 10 at the Education Center.
Following the tour, we’ll enjoy lunch. But tell us in advance if you’d
- bring your own food and non-alcoholic beverages, or
- purchase a box lunch onsite (# of lunches_______)
Now it’s your choice of a full load of fun options: kayaking, biking, fishing, beach time.
FOR BEACH GOERS: bring your own chairs and umbrellas, etc., or rent at Lovers Key ($20 for a beach chair and umbrella), and enjoy the 2 miles of pristine sand and surf. Changing facilities, refreshment concessions, and bathrooms are available on site. And there’s a tram to take you and your all your beach equipment right to the beach through the mangrove trails.
FOR KAYAKERS: Bring your own kayaks or rent ($20 for singles, $30 for doubles) to enjoy the easy, peaceful, and navigable streams through Lovers Key. If you wish, we can team up more experienced kayakers with novices. The kayak launch is adjacent to the Education Center.

*Please note: Kayaks and canoes stay in the calm Estuary. Paddle boards can go in the Estuary or the beach/gulf.
