Georgia Motorsports Park Welcomed Best Auto-Crossers in U.S. & Canada with Covid19 Protocols

On March 13th-15th, the Best Auto-Crossers from the US & Canada Converged on South Georgia Motorsports Park

On March 13th-15th, the best auto-crossers from the US and Canada converged on South Georgia Motorsports Park in Adel, Georgia , as they have for the last 13 years.  This year’s event was a bit peculiar given all of the odd Covid-19 protocols that we undertook in an effort to keep everyone safe.  What was not different was the fun, camaraderie and intense competition that opens the National autocross season that ends at the National Championships in Lincoln, Nebraska each September.

Tom Kring had his third podium finish in the last 4 years at “Dixie Nationals” finishing 2nd  in the STU class in his 2008 Cayman S.  It’s always a good start to the national season to be standing on the podium in the season opener.  It gives you a good idea where you stand against the best in the country and how much work you need to do between now and September.  Our other member in attendance was Jonathan Ponader.  This was Jonathan’s first ever National event and he left with a lot to be proud of with a 9th place finish in the always very competitive SSC class.  Jonathan arrived in Georgia planning to race his 986 Boxster S in CS, but was asked by Mike Lawson on Friday afternoon (one of the best SSC drivers in the country…who also went on to win the SSC class) to co-drive his Toyota 86, as he lost his co-driver earlier that morning.  Jonathan agreed and drove brilliantly for his first time in that car on top of all of the pressure of his first national event.  He had a great time, learned a lot and made many new friends from around the country.  I certainly think that his first National event won’t be his last!
