Annual Summer Party in Goodland Well Attended

Annual Summer Party in Goodland Well Attended

Sunday,  June 11th marked yet another successful outing for the Everglades Region. Thankfully the weather cooperated as Southwest Florida skies produced some stormy earlier in the day.

It was a wonderful sight to behold a stream of Porsches of all colors and types lining the narrow street and on the grass!

Parmesan Pete’s food truck put on a fine (and large portioned!) menu of Italian specialties.

The “Good Bad Kids “ band kept everyone’s toes tapping as some members played lawn games.

The day was very relaxed while everyone sat around chatting or admiring the cars.

A fine day in our fun summer calendar!

F1 Imports and Exotics kindly sponsored our event and we are very grateful for their generous support!

Members Enjoy Brand New Events in April

Cars and Cocktails at AutoQuest

Everglades Region members enjoyed two new events in April and you can check out all the photos CLICK HERE .

AutoQuest hosted Porsches & Pizza at their Fort Myers facility on April 12th. Although the winds were brisk outside, the atmosphere was festive inside.
Our hosts, Gavin & Amy Riches, tested Everglades Region members on their Porsche knowledge, awarding prizes to the winners.
Two lucky winners took home Sebring track experiences. For photos, go to Gallery and click on the Social Events Gallery tab.

Porsche of Naples/Fort Myers Sponsors Karting Outing at Anderson Race Park

President of the Region, Chris Branston, Letter to the Membership

President’s Letter 2017

Dear Everglades Region Members,

2017 has started with big turn outs for all our events! We need to look, however, at our achievements during 2016. We had an active season of rallies – the October one to Boca Grande had the largest number yet – 97 Porsche people! Our events are varied from supporting sports, theater, charity cycle events, and several social dinners, culminating at the end of the year with the Holiday Party which attracted a record turnout at Longshore Lake’s Clubhouse – where we were treated to an excellent dinner and performance by the evening’s entertainer.

Perhaps more exciting, however, was our program of autocross and driving events. This went from strength to strength last year – thanks to the efforts of Tom Kring and David Noelken. Thanks again are due to the sponsorship the Club has received from Porsche Naples and Porsche Fort Myers who supported all of the autocross events.

Looking forward to this year we have a great social calendar planned and with a strong Board we are moving ahead in lots of ways. For example the Club’s website has been greatly enhanced – and I urge you to check it from time to time in order to keep up with our exciting program of events. I can only emphasize, however, that a club is only as good as its members – and the more those members contribute to it, the better the club will be- my thanks to you for turning out and supporting all our events in greater numbers than ever before!

Our plans for the Weekend Of The Year (W.O.T.Y 28th April- 30th April ) are well in place at the Inn on the Lakes in Sebring and already 54 members have booked and paid their deposits for the event – it should be a weekend to remember! Sebring is in an interesting part of Florida and if your only experience has been through racing give this weekend a look as we explore the wider area around Sebring !
A rally is already being planned and potluck dinners have been fixed for most months plus a summer party on Sunday June 11th in Goodland!

Big Announcement!

This year is Everglades Region 20th birthday (20 years since the grant of our charter from PCA) and we plan to celebrate it big time on Friday November 3rd/ Saturday 4th November at Immokalee Casino with a wonderful program. Please mark your calendars and watch for more details soon. The board is working hard to bring you exciting events and look forward to your support!

So please use your cars – and continue to enjoy – “Driving in its purest form.”

See you at the next event –

Cars On 5th – Naples

The annual “Cars on 5th” in Naples bring out hundreds of fabulous automobiles and fills the streets with car enthusiasts. The “British-Italian-German Sports & Collector Car Show” in Cape Coral is a more laid back event, but draws an equally passionate group of owners and their beautiful cars. What’s the common thread? A pair of Porsches, born 51 years apart in Zuffenhausen, earned top awards at these 2017 shows!

At Cars on 5th, Hank Bernbaum won Best In Show – Super Car Class with his 2015, Weissach Package 918 Spyder
One of only 918 cars built, this is no garage queen. Hank and his sapphire blue 918 divide their time between Lake Forest, Illinois and Naples. Although he uses a transport service to shuttle the car back and forth, Hank drives the car regularly on the street. In 2013, a 918 fitted with the optional ‘Weissach Package’ set a Nürburgring lap time of 6:57 on the 20.6 km (12.8 mi) road course, reducing the previous record by 14 seconds, and making it the first series production street-legal car to break the 7-minute barrier. Hank is a member of the Chicago Region PCA and attends local Everglades Region events when he is SW Florida.

575 cars participated in the 2017 edition of Cars on 5th, including 42 Porsches.

B.I.G. Show – Cape Coral

At the B.I.G. Show, John Boles won Best In Show and Best pre-1999 Porsche with his 1964, 356C Cabriolet
This numbers matching beauty is finished in sky blue with a red leather interior. The car’s early days were spent in Pennsylvania. John helped a business associate buy the car in 1994 from the original owner. When he stopped driving it, John purchased the car in 2012. The 356 has enjoyed a proper paint job with bare metal restoration, including the correct single stage paint. All chrome parts are original as well as the leather seats. All the mechanicals were redone for safety and reliability. Although John drives his 356 regularly, the car has only accumulated 58,000 documented miles. It recently completed a 400 mile road rally with the Alfa Romeo Club on New Years Day, touring the back roads of Central Florida. A total of 133 cars participated in B.I.G. 2017, including 15 Porsches.

In case you are wondering, the white 356SC coupe in the background was entered by John’s wife Judy, winning 2nd place in class. Other trophy winning Porsches included:

  • Carlos Ojeda 1989 – 944 Turbo S
  • Richard Lumpp 2016 – Boxster Spyder
  • Gladwyn (Gee) Lopez 2015 – Cayman GTS
  • Mike Barth 2017 911 Targa
